Online MBA Frequently Asked Questions
The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below will provide answers to most of the common questions that we receive about the UConn Online MBA Program. Contact us with additional questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What degree will I earn at the end of the program?
Students earn a Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut School of Business.
What is the average amount of work experience that an Online MBA applicant has?
Since fall 2021 is our inaugural cohort, we cannot officially report an average amount of work experience for this program. We require a minimum of at least two years of professional experience. Our most recent applicants had approximately eight years of experience in similar programs like the UConn Part-Time MBA program.
What time of day are classes offered?
The Online MBA is a cohort program. Most of your core required courses are delivered in an asynchronous format; this means you will complete classwork at your own convenience. In addition to the core asynchronous courses, there is a 90-minute synchronous class scheduled for Monday evening from 6:00 p.m.-730 p.m. Elective courses can be either asynchronous or synchronous. All classes will be scheduled in the evening.
How many students are in the program?
The Fall 2021 inaugural cohort plans to enroll 40 students.
How long does it take to complete the program?
Most students will complete the program in about 3-3.5 years. This period assumes each student’s ability to engage in an average of two classes per semester.
Is there a maximum number of classes I can take each semester?
Students will be required to take two core courses a semester for six consecutive semesters (fall, spring, summer). During this time, students will have the option to take an elective. Students can alternatively wait until they have completed their core courses before they begin their elective coursework. We recommend students start with the two courses (six credits) for their first semester, to gauge the workload and manage their work/life balance.
Are international students eligible for the Online MBA program?
Yes, however, the University of Connecticut does not issue a Form I-20 for part-time study. Online MBA applicants, therefore, do not qualify for the F-1 student visa through UConn sponsorship. If you are already in the U.S. on a visa, you are responsible to ensure that taking classes will not violate the terms of your visa status. The University cannot determine this for you.
What is the average age of students in the program?
Since fall 2021 is our inaugural cohort, we cannot officially report the average age of students in the program. The average age of students enrolled in other MBA programs at UConn is about 30 years old. We have students enrolled who range from 22 to 60+ years old.
Am I able to attend events on campus?
Yes, Online MBA students are a part of the UConn community and have access to all on-campus events.
Do students intern while pursuing their degrees?
Most of our students are full-time working professionals, therefore many do not intern. Additionally, the courses within the Online MBA curriculum do not incorporate internships for credit. Though we do not have a required internship component in our program, we do have Online MBA designated career counselors who can assist you with your internship/job search and preparation goals for students who would like to organize an internship independently.
When should applicants expect an admissions decision?
Applicants will receive a decision by the indicated response date that corresponds with the deadline found on the Business School's website.
How are students notified about their admissions decision?
Decisions are shared via email. The decision will also be available on the application portal.
